It’s no secret that building your home can be a stressful and overwhelming experience. The payoff is worth it, but the experience can cost you more than the price tag on the contract. This is why we have decided to start a blog series– Building the Dream – to help you during your build process. You will find helpful hints and information that will help to simplify the process and therefore put the fun back into building. After all, building your new home is something that many of us dream of and work hard to achieve –let’s make it enjoyable!
Before you start to get down to the nitty-gritty, work out a budget for your project. Talk to each other, to your financial advisers and lenders and come up with a figure you can not exceed. If you know this figure, you will have a defined limit on your expenses, and can work back from this when you are talking with your architect, builder, and designer. This can give you peace of mind because you know that you will not over-extend yourself, and you will have a realistic expectation as to what you will achieve in this build. Clever architects, builders and designers will use every dollar you allocate to give you the best outcome possible, but they will all need a budget to work with.
